FAQ: What is the House of Netjer?
The House of Netjer is a Kemetic Orthodox
temple located in the metropolitan
area of Chicago, Illinois. It was recognized as a temple and seminary by the
State of Illinois in 1993 and gained federal 501(c)3 tax-exempt temple
status in 1999. The House of Netjer was founded in the late 1980s, by the
founder and later Nisut (a Kemetic title
for the cultural and religious
authority, often translated "ruler" or "king" in a political sense) of
Kemetic Orthodoxy, H.H. Tamara Siuda (AUS). In 1992, the Rev. Craig
Schaefer joined the House of Netjer as its administrator. At its founding,
the temple was called the House of Bast (a
Name of Netjer to Whom a number
of original House members were dedicated, in part), but changed its name in
1993 in order to reflect, more accurately, that all Names of Netjer are
worshipped here.
